2012 CURT Winter Best Practices Workshop

Construction Safety: Further Down the Road to Zero

Join us on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 in New Orleans, LA for this CURT best practices workshop on safety and learn what owners and contractors can do to achieve Zero.

Everyone starts their journey to zero from a different point, so no two paths are the same. However, to obtain the desired results from all members of the team on any project, there must be a shared perspective of what it means to be working toward the achievement of the outcome.

As a result of the diversity of starting points, differing perspectives and a variety of beliefs, there is a need for utilization of an array of methods and strategies to bring all participants on board with the results. During this workshop, CURT members and contractors will share lessons of many different methods which have been used to improve the safety results on construction projects. All of these have started from a different place on the full spectrum of approaches.

The purpose of this session is to offer support for both experienced and novices on their journey to zero. Through the experiences of those who have implemented programs on existing sites, new corporate-wide initiatives, and for specific new projects, participants will learn about the principles, pitfalls and suggestions for improvement from those who have learned through direct engagement in initiating change. The workshop is formatted to permit all attendees to actively participate and to engage in interactive discussions with others facing the challenges of doing more with fewer resources.

Topics to be covered include:

  • What Zero means, and how to explain it.
  • How owners can implement at corporate, division, project and international levels.
  • What General and Trade contractors can do to bring along their partners.
  • How to overcome the typical barriers and problems associated with implementation.

Who Should Attend: Owners and contractors who recognize that it requires an on-going effort to eliminate injuries on construction projects. Achievement requires a continual effort, utilizing a wide array of methods, and learning from others can help them to improve their own processes. The discussions will cover how to deal with the objections and challenges of bringing along all the multiple parties involved in a project.
